Try These Seasonings on Your Vegan Dishes

Try These Seasonings on Your Vegan Dishes

We’re stepping up to dispel the rumour that vegan dishes are always bland. That nothing in a vegan diet can be flavour enhanced.

If you’re new to veganism or looking to introduce some tasty vegan-style dishes to your meal plan, we have some seriously tasty vegan seasoning options for you, that all add a little something extra to anything and everything plant-based.

What Kind of Seasoning Do Vegans Use?

The choices vary, and just like with any choice of seasoning, you’ll have to a lend a little thought to the additions you’re adding to a particular dish – you don’t want to overpower, but at the same time, you’d rather not underwhelm.

So here are some of the most powerful tastes, in seasoning – use these to enhance, or enrich your choice of vegan meal.

Cumin

This one’s a staple for all savoury dishes, and especially when harnessing the flavours of the east. A vegan curry or stew will simply come alive with this familiar eastern style spice, and especially when combined with certain textures like tofu, or lentils.

Fresh Herbs

The right vegan seasoning could just be as simple as topping your dish off with a delicate combination of fresh herbs. Take parsley, rosemary and thyme, along with two cloves of garlic, grind in a pestle and mortar until blended, and mix into the stewed filling of a vegan cottage pie, lightly sprinkle over a square of vegan lasagne, or use it to season the chickpea and sweetcorn patty in a vegan burger. Simply heavenly.

Soy Sauce

So, let’s move away from the sprinkling kind of vegan seasoning, and to the marinading kind. And the best entry here is that vegan go-to, soy sauce. This one can be used to spruce up most dishes with that famous salty tang. It’s particularly fantastic on those light eastern meals, though – soy sauce marinaded tofu and vegetable stir fry is simply wonderful. Go on, splash a dash of soy sauce over the top of it too. You can thank us later.

Turmeric

Turmeric’s presence in a dish simply lights it up. It’s that eastern spice trademark that you just know will take any curry dish to the next level. But it’s great to include a spicy kick and a little colour in any savoury meal – especially the vegan breakfast kind. Try it on a vegan omelette, a tofu scramble, or even a vegan quiche.

And there you have it – if you’re at a loss as to how you can lend some extra salty, savoury, peppery delight to your vegan dishes, try these easy vegan seasonings. They all should be in the pantry or fridge already, so it’ll be an easy sprinkle or dash, to take any dish to new levels of taste. Discover more fantastic vegan dishes to try.
